About the project
Funded by Arts Council England in partnership with Olympias Music Foundation, Mapping Migrant Voices is an online catalogue of musical and oral histories from migrant musicians living in Greater Manchester. Over the course of 2020, researchers conducted online interviews with over 60 diverse musicians from 27 different countries. Their musical stories are shared on an interactive map of Greater Manchester developed by software company, Peera. In doing so, the project aims to encourage thoughtful engagement with music(s) from different cultures, counter the othering often accidentally reinforced by the term ‘world music’ and celebrate the richness of Manchester’s diverse musical communities.
